Eat More Fat. Lose Weight.

I know what you’re thinking: “I can’t eat fat AND lose weight at the same time!” But I’m here to tell you, yes you can! It’s just not the way you think. I sat down with Bill Higgs, the General Manager at Shula’s Athletic Club, to pick his brain on this somewhat counter-intuitive idea and he was able to provide me with some great tips.

Of course, the fats found in fast food and sweets are bad for you. These foods contain “bad” fats and are extremely high in carbohydrates, which will cause you to gain weight. But there are foods that contain “good” fats that will help you boost your metabolism and to lose the weight you want. These foods include olive oil, coconut oil, bone broth, anchovies, cold water high fat fish and fish oil, and fresh veggies. Even avocados; yes, you are welcome to enjoy as much guacamole as you like! And as a bonus, these good fats are essential for the brain!

It’s simple: cut out the processed carbs and additives, increase your “good” fats, and of course exercise. In no time, you’ll find yourself dropping the weight. You don’t need to be on a strict diet; just eat good, wholesome food. What does that mean? Organic fruits & veggies; grass fed meats; and everything else minimally processed. Look for foods with no additives, no GMOs (it looks scary … and it should be!), good fats, and you should be good to go! ~Nicole Smith
