The Benefits of Yoga

Yoga is a combination of stretching poses, strength training, breathing exercises, and meditation for a total mind and body workout.

With various intensities, including hatha, vinyasa and bikram, yoga fits all ages and experience levels. The movement and poses of yoga help the body relax, while burning calories and toning muscle. Yoga targets the abdominals, legs, hips, glutes, arms, and back by supporting one’s full body weight. And if that’s not enough, yoga works to improve health, heal aches and pains, flexibility, and mood.

So, exactly how does yoga improve your health?

The answer – there are many ways yoga can be used to
improve health, both as a preventative measure and an aid in recovering from illness. Here are a few
benefits of participating in regular yoga practices.

The most obvious benefits of yoga are improved flexibility and balance. Tight muscles and connective
tissue lead to poor posture, strain on joints, and excessive pain where there should be minimal. It
prevents cartilage and joint breakdown, like arthritis, by providing nutrients to joint cartilage as your
joints go through a full range of motion.

Yoga also releases tension in your limbs, encourages you to relax and focus on the present moment.
Yoga can ease your pain. When physical pains are relieved, it is easier to move around. Being active
also improves your mood and helps to build relationships with yourself and those around you.
